Sorry to jump on to this message to make a totally non related point!!!
Just looking at the first heat of "Britains" this evening! I have to say that i feel that we are still forgetting our lactic acid thresh-holds and cv work. Lads i really do think that with only 4 weeks to go till the "Worlds"-the time for the fitness work is now! Ok maybe you may drop in strength by perhaps 3-5% but you will increase your chances by 20%
Does anyone else agree? Only thinking in the good of the athletes by the way. An avid follower of the sport for the past 10 years!

Louis,
I have been concentrating on fitness/CV work for the last 3 weeks in training for the Alhalows comp and have lost a lot more than 5% strength! more like 20%!
Unfortunately, over the last 10 years, the sport has moved from mainly static strength events to strength / stamina / fitness events. Therefore the true 'strongest man' will probably not win!
eg last year, Mark Iliffe (r.i.p) was not stronger than Glen Ross but he was fitter and hence won the competition.
Perhaps it should be renamed 'Britains fitest big lump'
Darren.
