I have to disagree with the programs on this site. Too many seated or static routines. In this sport you need explosive strength training from the beginning. Lighter event training will also help.

you have to build a base strength before any specialising type of training. The routine on this site has been proven to get people strong very quickly and to teach your muscles endurance. For example on pushing days your triceps get used on every event and at the end when we do triceps they get blasted but we still lift massive weights. Newcomers (to the schedule) triceps are shot by the time we get to triceps from all the bench, press b/n neck, military press etc. beforhand. Its takes time to teach your muscles that they have to save something for the next event!
The sort of training you are talking about, and I agree with you, comes after you have built a basis to start from.
regards
Phil

Gordon the best advice i can give you is not to spend hours in the gym wandering round talking a good show, being the strongest in your gym is only half of it. Glenn Ross is the strongest man in Britain bar no one,but he,s not Britains strongest man. For general health and quality of life get fast, flexible and strong, practise the events weekly.Turn up for a show with no event training and your never go back.
