Right i popped the stone out of the mould & it was ok but a bit rough on the end. It doesn`t bother me as i can patch it up. Had another go today using a different method & am confident the stone should come out a bit better. It really is trial & error.

1) make sure the inside of the mould is very clean. 2) Tape the bad boy up like so Dont skimp on the tape as you`ll want it stuck together 3) Get all your kit in 1 place

4) Get an old tyre & fill with sand 5) Place the mould firmly in the sand This should stop the bottom flatening out. 6) Mix your chippings & cement together. I make my mix fairly wet.I add water sealer & upva glue to the mix, you dont need to i just do. I use a brickies trowel to put the mix into the mould. 7) Its really important that after every bucket of mix that you `cuddle` the mould & rock it back & forth in a quick motion. This releases the trapped air & makes for a smoother more solid stone. If possible get a concrete poker & you`ll be well away. 8) Fill the mould to the top Leave to settle for as long as you like.I leave mine for 24 hours then pop it out of the mould. Once out the mould i leave it for 7 days before using it. Some people leave their stones out in the fresh air ,personal taste really. When dry just grind the bottom lump off ,i use a hand held angle grinder. 9) You should end up with something like this (or better hopefully) 10) Dont worry if your stone comes out like this As all you have to do is make a strong mix of sand & cement & patch it up.I use a sponge to smooth it over. I hope this is of some use to you. I`m by no means an expert & will ask a few top stone builders to have a look at this post & edit the bits they feel i`ve got wrong on. Any question then just ask away ? Happy stone building.
