The main trouble is knowing what to train for, I might do Allhallows next year, but up until then I want to try and do some powerlifting comps, I would still fit into the under twenties category next year, so on looking at the UK results for this year I don't think I would be out of my league. I think I need to concentrate on building my basic strength at the moment, I was perhaps not clear in my last email abut programs, the medium rep program I referred to was not quite what I meant and was more a descending rep style thing, with slightly less 'all out' emphasis on the powerlifts, so it is still focusing on strength; I am not trying to be a bodybuilder. I am from Essex, which I think means I fall into the East Midlands division, where abouts do you compete from?

N Ireland division, live in belfast..........we've got some strong boys over here!! I feel that you can't really mix the strongman and powerlifting effectively, its really all or nothing, maybe others will comment?
You're right to specialise in getting the base strength up first, then move into strongman if you want to. i would say 19 is really a bit young to get into the heavy events stuff (sound like a real old timer don't I).......but i feel it is extremely important to get the proper foundation in place then do what you want after that. Cuts down on injuries and everything........maybe.

I was only planning on doing reasonably light events stuff, to add a bit of variety in my training alongside the endurance stuff. I have got a log, and about 20 plough wheels so I was going to use them for farmers and weights for the log.

is milliatry press just pressing above your head without use of the legs?
If its the one you can use your legs then, Millitary + squats on the same day may hamper progression

Sorry, military press was not really what I meant, more a standing press behind the neck, with no bend of the legs, sometimes I do some high cleans and push presses on my bench day, but I really keep the weight down as I have not quite mastered this - I find it hard to drop the weight on my shoulders at the top of clean. Here's a few basic form tips for the Deadlift (from an ancient Iron Game warrior!).
Chin and chest up
Hang arms as much as poss
There must be a pull on the bar before you lift
Shins must be just about touching the bar as you bend at the knees and waist equally to grasp your grip
Pull from the floor into lockout as fast as possible ie maximum force to break through sticking points
