well i'll enter here with a GREAT STUFF so far people! i agree that a council is the best way forward for the sport, with a results based system for classification of athletes[ ie novice/ intermadiate/ open or pro] . from my own personal experience finding backing in any form is a nightmare in this sport because of our lack of a national representative body, the interest and enthusiasm of the general public in our sport is considerable and growing with every show held and shown on television, which is something that even a fledgling council can build on for the good of all at every level. in the south east i have found that simply by getting a few like minded people together can achieve very good results in a short period of time, ie the first lockmeadow team event, so everyone get their heads together and give us representation, and allow the sport to grow. keep it up lads. alex

Strong words Alex but true with a council we can united this sport and local TV could help this sport grow. What we need now is action not words. I think with Phils input we could get the ball rolling.

Yes your right Ken, i dont need any equipment, but as mentioned earlier i am putting on a show next May ive just got a brilliant venue with bar and food and lots of parking. But going back to the council we need a name, so how about the UK FEDERATION OF STRONGMEN its kind of catchey. No Ken i dont think youve been hasty i am by no means a strongman but i am very strong and do a bit of training with a future WSM. At 45 i just want to compete in a couple of shows. i still think the UK FEDERATION OF STRONGMEN sounds GOOOD ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Not bad Steve but just 2 points.
If you have Federation in the title, people may assume that we are something like the UK branch of IFSA. I personally would not want anything to do with IFSA as, and this is only my personal opinion, IFSA have done sod all to represent or promote the sport in this country.
Secondly, if you have strongmen or man in the title you are alienating women and I beleive, again only my opinion, that women get a tough enough time from IFSA (see Jill Mills!). We should represent and promote strength athletics for all. Something like British Strength Athletes Association? or World Strength Athletics Association?
regards to all, Darren
